Moses's Kebab Akihabara Station

I had been staying in Akihabara for quite a while, and I never knew this place existed.

Which is funny because the shop is literally right behind Atre 1, just a few minutes from Akihabara Station. 

I must have walked past it countless times, especially when I was heading back to my place.

But I never noticed it.

Until one night.

I was walking around Akihabara as usual when I noticed a pretty long queue outside a small shop.

People were standing there patiently, waiting for their turn.

And instead of finding out what they were actually waiting for, I just joined the queue.

Yes. Random.

I had absolutely no idea what I was queuing for. ๐Ÿ˜‚

My thought process was basically like..

“Hmm… long queue. Must be something good.”

So I joined.

No research.

No Google.

No menu inspection.

Just pure trust in the Japanese queue system. ๐Ÿ˜‚

After waiting for a while, I finally realised..

Oh. It’s a kebab shop.

and then came the best part,

Okay. it's Halal.. good! haha

At that point, I was already committed.

I waited for around 20 minutes before it was finally my turn. 


The place is called Moses’s Kebab Akihabara Station Front Store (ใƒขใƒผใ‚ผใ‚นใ•ใ‚“ใฎใ‚ฑใƒใƒ– ็ง‹่‘‰ๅŽŸ้ง…ๅ‰ๅบ—).

The shop is located at 1-13-7 Sotokanda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, in the Misago Building. 

It’s only about 1–2 minutes on walk from JR Akihabara Station’s Electric Town Exit, tucked around the Atre 1 area.

So if you’re coming out of Akihabara Station through the Electric Town Exit, 

head towards Atre 1 and look around the streets just behind/alongside it. 




I take this picture around 2am.. so there wasn't much of a queue.
If you come during the day, be prepared for a much longer line at this shop.

The shop is much easier to spot.. especially because of the bright red signage and the huge kebab menu outside. 

And honestly, I still can’t believe I had been walking around that area every single day without noticing it.


So.. Was It Actually Good?

I ordered the Beef Doner Kebab Combo.

And I have to admit something.

I’m not even a huge kebab person.

So I wasn’t expecting much.

But after the first few bites..

Okay. This is actually really good. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I don’t really know how to explain the taste properly.

It wasn’t just “ohhh this is a kebab.” 

There was something about the seasoning, the meat, the sauce and all the vegetables together that made it taste different from the kebabs I’ve tried before.

And the portion was generous too.

The official menu describes their doner kebab as meat served with vegetables such as cabbage and tomato inside pita bread, and they offer chicken, beef, or a chicken and beef combination, with several levels of sauce. 

For someone who doesn’t normally go looking for kebab..

I genuinely enjoyed it.

and I started thinking, Okay.. maybe I should try another one tomorrow.

And that’s exactly what happened.

It became my everyday dinner.

I'd recommend getting it Takeaway rather than dining in. Because the shop is quite small and can get a bit crowded or tight spaces. Takeaway is definitely the better option. ๐Ÿ˜„

Sorry.. I Don't really have a nice photo with the kebab. This is literally the only one I have because I completely forgot to take pictures. I was too busy eating, I guess. ๐Ÿ˜‚ haha


After that first accidental discovery, I started stopping by Moses Kebab almost every day before heading back to the hotel.

At first, it was the beef doner.

Then I started getting curious.

What else do they have?

So I tried the other options.

Doner kebab.

Shawarma.

Kebab rice.

Chicken.

Beef.

Mix.

Basically, I turned my accidental kebab discovery into a kebab tasting tour. haha ๐Ÿ˜‚

And honestly, everything I tried was pretty good.

My favourite was still the beef doner, but I liked that they had different ways of eating the same kebab.. wrapped in pita, flatbread, with rice, or even as a kebab cup.


A Few Things I Didn’t Know About Moses Kebab

After I became a regular customer, I eventually looked the place up and found out that there’s actually quite a bit of history behind it.

According to the shop’s official website, Moses Kebab is operated by Moses Kumani, and Moses is known within the Japanese kebab industry as someone who started selling kebabs in Japan very early on. The shop also says he was featured on the Japanese TV programme Matsuko no Shiranai Sekai in 2016. 

One detail I found particularly interesting is where the flavour comes from.

The shop says Moses’s mother owned a popular restaurant in Winneba, Ghana, and that the shop’s original sauces were inspired by two sauces passed down from his mother, then adapted to suit Japanese tastes. 

They also offer five different levels of spiciness, from the mild original sauce to much hotter options. 

So that explains why the flavour doesn’t quite taste like the generic kebab I was expecting.

There’s actually a story behind it.

And Yessss, It’s Halal :)


This was probably the best surprise of my completely random queue experience.

The shop officially states that it accommodates halal customers, 

and halal friendly travel guides also list Moses Kebab as a Muslim friendly/halal option in Akihabara. 


So if you’re travelling around Tokyo and looking for something quick, filling and halal, this is definitely one place you can put on your list :)

And because it’s in Akihabara, it’s particularly convenient if you’re spending the day shopping, exploring the anime and gaming stores, or wandering around the Electric Town area.


Another Reason I Like This Place

It’s open 24 hours.

Yes, really.

The Akihabara branch officially started 24 hour operation in November 2023,

and the shop’s current official information still lists it as open 24 hours, every day. 

Which makes so much sense for Akihabara.

You know those nights when you’ve been walking around Tokyo for hours, everything is starting to close, you’re hungry, and you just want something quick?

Apparently, Moses Kebab has got you covered.

Would I Recommend It?

Absolutely.

Especially if you’re already in Akihabara.

I wouldn’t necessarily tell you to travel across Tokyo just for a kebab. ๐Ÿ˜‚

But if you’re already exploring Akihabara, go try it.

And if you see a queue outside..

Don’t be like me.

At least check what you’re queueing for first. ๐Ÿคฃ


Although, to be fair, my random decision to follow the crowd turned out pretty well.

I went in not even knowing what was waiting for me.

And I came out with a kebab. lol

By the end of my stay in Akihabara, Moses Kebab had become part of my daily routine.


P/S: I guess that’s one of the fun things about travelling. Not every good place comes from a carefully planned itinerary. Sometimes you just see a queue, get curious, and follow it. Or you can try being weird and random like me! You’ll discover so many things along the way. Hahah
